NGEMC is monitoring the weather ahead of the artic front expected to sweep through our area late Thursday evening and throughout the Christmas holidays. The co-op encourages residents to take steps to keep loved ones and property safe.

TIPS FOR EXTREME COLD TEMPERATURES:
- Check on loved ones, especially the elderly, often throughout the storm and in the following days during any recovery efforts.
- Ensure you have a way to receive weather alerts.
- While NGEMC maintains a robust power system, some outages are unavoidable and it is important to be prepared for power outages.
- Check your emergency kit supplies for both your home and vehicle. Learn what to include in your emergency kit at Ready.gov.
- Have a plan in place for loved ones that depend on medical equipment, up to and including a plan for evacuation to a medical facility. Learn more about emergency planning for individuals with disabilities. Learn more about emergency planning for older adults.
- Ensure any alternative heating source is safe for use indoors. Remember to consider the risk of both fire and carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Ensure generators are safely installed.
- Bring pets in from outdoors.
- Cover exterior faucets, insulate water pipes and prepare your home for winter weather.
